DPA meets with the trade to discuss a range of critical port-related issues

Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla organised a “MEETING WITH TRADE” on May 24, 2024 in Gandhidham, which was chaired by Mr Nandeesh Shukla, IRTS, Deputy Chairperson of DPA, and attended by key port user associations, including the Kandla Port Steamship Agents Association, the Kandla Customs Brokers Association, the Gandhidham Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Kandla Stevedores Association Limited, and the Kandla Ship Chandlers and Ship Repairs Owners Association.
 
The discussion focused on a range of critical port-related issues such as crane-berth hire charges, cargo productivity norms, incentives for performance beyond port norms, weighbridge issues, land charges, and port user passes. Discussion on marketing of coal and other cargoes was the core at the meeting, informed a release.
 
Building on the commitment to sustain momentum, DPA achieved an extraordinary milestone by handling a record-breaking 18.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo within the first 45 days of the current fiscal year 2024-25. This remarkable feat represents a 6.81% growth compared to the same period of last fiscal year and surpasses the previous record set during FY 2022-23 by 6.38%.
 
DPA, Kandla is committed to ongoing engagement with port users and stakeholders to address their concerns and enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of the port. The constructive feedback and collaborative spirit demonstrated during the meeting will help to decide future actions and strategies for the growth of the port, the release emphasised. 
 
The meeting concluded successfully, thanks to the efforts of Mr Ratna Sekhar Rao, Traffic Manager and other Heads of Departments, including Mr C. Harichandran, Secretary; Capt. Pradeep Mohanty, Deputy Conservator; Mr B. Bhagyanath, FA & CAO; Mr V. Raveendra Reddy, Chief Engineer; Mr Susil 
 
Chandra Nahak, Chief Mechanical Engineer; and Mr Sushil Kumar, Assistant Commandant-CISF. DPA expressed its gratitude to all participants for their valuable contributions and said that it looked forward to continued partnership and progress in addressing port-related issues on a regular basis.
