Leather, footwear exports surge by 25 pc in FY25

India’s leather, non-leather footwear and products exports rose by about 25% year-on-year to $5.7 billion in 2024-25, and the shipments are likely to cross the $6.5 billion mark this fiscal, according to exporters’ body Council for Leather Exports (CLE) Executive Director Mr R. Selvam. In 2024-25, India exceeded the export target by $1 billion set by the Department of Commerce, and going by this trend, exports will cross $6.5 billion in 2025-26, he said.  The sector is recording growth despite global uncertainties, he added. Sharing similar views, CLE Chairman Mr Rajendra Kumar Jalan said that exports are doing well in both the US and the UK, key export destinations for India. Due to the 10% tariff hike, all exporters are giving discounts to buyers, but there have been no order cancellations, as per a report.
