US, British vessels cautiously return to the Red Sea

US and British vessels are cautiously returning to the Red Sea after the Houthis announced earlier this month that they would scale back their aggressive maritime operations, the Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) announced. JMIC assesses that as the peace agreement progresses and vessels and infrastructure remain untargeted, improved stability is expected; however, the risk in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden remains elevated.
Since January 19, six US and UK vessels have transited the Red Sea safely. However, major international shipping firms such as Maersk, MSC and MOL have said they will not immediately resume journeys despite the assurances. International shipping companies have had to travel along a longer route around Africa to avoid the Red Sea since the Houthis began their operations, said a report.
