Libya’s new security & safety measures for tankers arriving at oil terminals from Black Sea ports
The Libyan Ministry of Transport Ports & Maritime Transport Authority has announced new measures for tankers arriving at oil terminals from Black Sea ports.
This comes after a tanker was found to have been attached with sea mines present in the conflict zone in the Black Sea, which caused explosions in the engine room.
As per a communique, when any tanker arrives from Black Sea ports towards loading platforms in Libyan ports, before it can be approved, the following must be done:
* Increase the security level on the ship to the second level.
* Carefully inspect and ensure the validity of the tanker’s original certificates, its issuing authority and insurance documents.
* Verify that they did not handle the shipment using the STS method, after review of the shipment documents.
* Examine the vessel with care, especially under the hull.
