DGFT notifies extension of duty-free import of yellow peas till Feb.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has extended the duty-free import of yellow peas, used as a substitute for chana, for two more months till the end of February, aimed at curbing prices of key pulse varieties, as stated in a notification. Import of yellow peas is free without minimum import price conditions and without port restriction, subject to registration under the online import monitoring system. Around 2.3 million tonnes of yellow peas have been imported into the country to improve domestic supplies. In December last year, the government allowed the duty-free import of yellow peas. An import duty of 50% was imposed on the pulses variety in 2017 to encourage domestic production, as per a report.
