Railways exporting coaches to Europe, Australia, Saudi Arabia: Minister

India is exporting metro coaches to Australia and bogies to several European countries and Saudi Arabia, Railways Minister Mr Ashwini Vaishnaw said in Rajya Sabha during a discussion on his Ministry’s budgetary allocation. He added that the public transporter would likely end FY25 among the top three freight carriers globally. A hundred locomotives manufactured in Bihar’s Marhaura are ready for export. The mechanical structure below the locomotives and coaches, called bogie or the underframe, is being exported to the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, France and Australia. Besides, the propulsion system, an important part of power electronics, is now being exported to France, Mexico, Romania, Spain, Germany and Italy. The Railways produced 1,400 locomotives in FY25, surpassing the combined output of the US and Europe. The network has also expanded its freight capacity by adding 200,000 new wagons to its fleet, as per a report.
