Kerala seeks Centre’s diplomatic intervention to lift US ban on shrimp exports

Kerala has urged the Central government to seek a diplomatic solution to the US ban on Indian shrimp exports, which was enforced for sea turtle protection. The ban, enacted in 2019, threatens a substantial portion of India’s $67,000 core annual fish exports, with Kerala potentially losing Rs 1,500 core. In response to the ban, global markets have reduced shrimp prices by up to 41%, thereby impacting revenue. Kerala has reportedly developed a Turtle Excluder Device (TED) to prevent turtle entanglement in fishing nets. While initially unapproved, the state seems optimistic about its revised TED, as per reports.
