Shipping Idea Exchange’s 7th meet sees insightful discussion and networking 
 
The seventh meeting of Shipping Idea Exchange, hosted by Mr Kaptan Malik and Mr Dinesh Tek, took place in Navi Mumbai on April 17. The event featured an engaging discussion on pivotal aspects of project and break bulk cargo logistics and RoRo shipping, led by esteemed industry professionals representing logistics, shipping, and shippers. Additionally, attendees benefited from a compelling talk on mental health issues delivered by a specialised healthcare professional.
 
The well-attended gathering commenced with a welcome address by Mr Kaptan Malik (Varamar) and Mr Dinesh Tek (Multimax Shipping), who shared the origins and objectives of Shipping Idea Exchange. They emphasised its role as an informal platform for industry professionals to connect and deliberate on all things related to shipping and logistics.
 
Shipping Idea Exchange is heralded as a collaborative forum where industry leaders can exchange insights, tackle challenges, and foster innovative solutions in shipping and logistics.
 
The importance of mental health 
 
Dr Suraj Shukla delivered a profound talk on addressing mental health issues. He stressed that mental health deserves recognition and attention, lamenting the prevalent lack of acceptance regarding these challenges in India. He encouraged individuals to acknowledge their struggles, viewing this as an act of courage, and emphasised that emotional breakdowns are not failures.
 
Panel discussion highlights
 
Expertly moderated by Dr Sharmila Amin of Globe Forwarding, also a panelist, the panel discussion first saw Mr Shashikant Mishra of L&T highlight the significance of logisticians being involved in a project right from the beginning stage itself. He also stressed the importance of the people in logistics and the timeline of projects.
 
Mr Rajesh Sharma of Thermax Industries touched upon the criticality of advance planning, and the need for logisticians to understand the contract details between the shipper and end customer. 
 
While responding to an RFQ for a project, one should structure the details such that it reflects capability and confidence, said Ms Sanjana Vardhan of Procam Logistics. She highlighted examining Incoterms, the deadline (ask for more time if necessary), the relevant regulations, need for surveys, HSE requirements etc. The quote should align with delivery capabilities, she said.
 
Mr Rahul Agarwal of Express Global emphasised that project forwarding is different from general freight forwarding. He also stressed on not being rigid and having flexibility in planning and execution. Besides, being preemptive is important for project forwarders, envisaging problems that might happen.
 
Every single project is different in project forwarding, said Dr Sharmila Amin of Globe Forwarding, emphasising the need for logisticians to be ready for all situations and circumstances. She also made the point that Indian forwarders are equally competent.
 
Mr Kumar Sheel of Optimum Freight threw light on seamless RoRo operations, which is benefiting from the growth in India’s automobile industry and vehicle exports.   
 
The event concluded with attendees enjoying the opportunity to network over cocktails and dinner.
