Paradip, Vizag ports to be linked to Chennai-Vladivostok corridor

The Major Ports of Paradip and Vishakhapatnam will be connected to the Chennai-Vladivostok maritime corridor to increase efficiency in oil and gas supply, said Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister, Mr Sarbananda Sonowal, while speaking at the Sagarmanthan conclave. The Chennai-Vladivostok route connects India’s south-eastern coast to Russia’s Far East and is a strategic alternative to the more commonly used Red Sea route. The addition of more ports in the India-Russia corridor comes as the government focuses on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and the International North-South Transport Corridor. The government is also focusing on modernising ports to facilitate exports, Mr Sonowal said, as per a report.
