AMTOI announces knowledge sessions on ESG to create awareness & brace for the new norms

The Association of Multimodal Transport Operators of India (AMTOI) has always taken the lead in various industry related initiatives, the latest being bringing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) to the forefront in the logistics industry. With imminent climate risks, increasing compliance requirements and growing concerns regarding social equitability at the workplace, understanding the concept of ESG and implementing the same in organisations has become inevitable.

ESG being a relatively new concept, especially to the logistics industry, it was felt that there is a need to understand it better in light of its applicability to the industry. It was further realised that the help of experts is required to arrive at an ESG roadmap for the logistics industry at large, create awareness, harness the existing knowledge, foster new ideas, and create a template of best industry practices.  An ESG roadmap would help organisations take measures to integrate environmental, social and governance practices into their operations, and understand the impact and sustainability of their business model.

In this context AMTOI had established an ESG Council, which is now organising a series of workshops to take this agenda further.

The first workshop is scheduled on September 25, 2024 at C. K. Nayudu Hall, CCI, Mumbai from 4 pm to 7 pm.

ESG in logistics

The logistics and cargo industry, a linchpin of global commerce, finds itself at a critical juncture where economic growth converges with the imperative of ESG responsibility.

Answers will be sought at these workshops on queries like “what is ESG reporting in the shipping industry?” In the maritime world, similar to other industries, ESG reporting covers topics such as recycling, greenhouse gas emissions, other air pollutants, ecological impact, business ethics, employee health and safety, as well as accident and safety management.

The workshops will further deliberate on how data collection of various factors will help businesses assess the risks and opportunities that may arise from environmental, societal and governance developments.

An ESG roadmap helps companies identify and mitigate risks across environmental, social and governance areas. At the workshops, the generic approach to ESG roadmap through step-by-step activities will be discussed.

The other areas the workshops will cover are the possible ESG goals for the logistics industry and the objectives set within the business to help organisations effectively manage their impact on society and the environment, emphasised a release.
