Major Ports handle more coastal cargo in April-Oct.

India’s Major Ports handled 1,097 lakh tonnes of coastal cargo between April-October 2024, up 4%, while non-major ports handled 770 lakh tonnes of coastal cargo, down 1%, during the same period. In comparison, a year ago, between April-October 2023, coastal cargo volumes at non-major ports had grown 21%, while the growth at Major Ports stood at 3.6%. Major Ports like Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Maharashtra and Mormugao in Goa have registered impressive growth rates in handling coastal volumes, over 38% and almost 23%, respectively, as per a report.
