MSC boasts a fleet of 900 container vessels
MSC, the world’s largest container shipping company, has made history by becoming the first company ever to operate a fleet of 900 container vessels, according to recent data from Alphaliner.
As per a report, the 900 ships have total capacity of 6.5 million TEUs, with MSC’s global market share being 20.3%.
Of these 900 vessels, 609 are owned by MSC (3.48 m TEU) and 291 are chartered (close to 3.0 m TEU). Its owned capacity accounts for nearly 54% of the total fleet.
Besides, MSC currently has 132 newbuilds on order, totalling over 2.06 million TEU. If all new ships are delivered without significant retirements or off-chartering, MSC’s potential capacity could surge to a staggering 8.5 million TEU, the report highlighted.
