Marine products exporters feel the heat as US tariffs loom

India’s marine products exports are likely to be impacted if the Trump administration imposes reciprocal duties on products imported from the country. At present, frozen shrimp exports to the US, which has a major share in the country’s marine products exports, do not attract duties in the US, while India keeps a 30% tariff on marine products imports from the US. Any imposition of duties on seafood by the US would hamper exports, said Mr K. N. Raghavan, Secretary General, Seafood Exporters Association of India. In FY24, India exported seafood worth $7.38 billion to the US, which has a 35% share in its total shipments. Frozen shrimp continues to be the principal item exported to the US, with a share of close to 92%. The US exports only Atlantic Salmon to India in small quantities, as per a report.
