Singapore seen as a key hub for Europe-Asia cargo under Gemini alliance

Around 40 vessels transporting eastbound cargo, such as from Europe to Asia, are expected to call at the Singapore Port each week, making it a key hub under the Gemini Cooperation alliance by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, which took effect on Feb. 1, 2025. They aim to have at least 90% of shipments arriving punctually by the time the new schedules are fully phased in, making the two liners industry leaders in schedule reliability. Approximately 340 vessels with a total capacity of 3.7 million TEU will be deployed to form the Gemini network. More vessels will be added to the schedule in the coming months, with June marking the first full month of complete network operations. The network will focus on East-West trades, as per a report.
