Centre to be primary investor in Maritime Development Fund

The Centre will be the anchor investor in the Rs 25,000 crore Maritime Development Fund, according to Mr Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW). As and when there is increased investor interest, the Centre could look at deregulation and bring down its exposure to not less than 26%. There is also scope for corpus revision. Leading global shipbuilders as well as shipping lines are reportedly willing to participate, indicating healthy interest to explore shipbuilding in India, as per a report.
