Prism Logistics excels in SODC transportation project for Panipat refinery

On December 1, 2024, Prism Logistics Pvt. Ltd created history by safely delivering 2 VGO reactor packages having 7.2 and 7.7 metres diameter and weighing 756 and 796 M. Tons for IOCL Panipat Refinery project against the contract awarded by Toyo Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. This multimodal journey started from Hazira by barge to Kandla Port and further by road for a distance of 1,320 km, the longest road transport for super heavy cargo of such diameter, as per a release.

Two sets of side by side European make hydraulic axles of configuration 24+24 and 26+26 with eight 520 HP   pullers, along with a team of 40+ people were pressed into service for the convoy, apart from civil works team to build bypasses en route.

There were numerous challenges right from Kandla Port till site, such as railway crossing, which were surmounted by constructing bypasses after taking shutdowns at 15 locations, temporary bypasses at 50+ locations, major civil modifications en route on NHAI road, shutdown of HT and Tower lines throughout the route, and canal crossing at 3 locations with steel bridge at Zazam, Tharad and Narwana.

The biggest challenge encountered was building bypass over full flowing irrigation canals at SSNL Tharad Canal and Narwana Irrigation Canal. Prism found a feasible technical solution by deploying 1,500 M. Tons capacity modular steel bridge, got the temporary bridge analysis verified from IIT, approved  by Haryana Irrigation authorities, and erected  with the help of 300 M. Ton crane, said its Managing Director Mr Aditya Banka.

Since Prism had all the required resources, expertise and ownership of modular steel bridge, it was selected by Japanese MNC Toyo over others for this most challenging project, said its Director Mr Anshuman Banka. Prism had recently successfully executed Asia’s biggest SODC multimodal project for HRRL Barmer Refinery, which won the Project of the Year 2024 award from HLPF London, and multimodal transportation for Panipat project which was the second such long distance transport project in a row. Such long distance SODC transports rarely happen, and Indian Logistics Service Providers once again proved their capability to handle these difficult projects. This is an example of the “Make in India” initiative, the release highlighted.

The successful execution of this most challenging project was possible because of the team’s total commitment to the project, support received from client, cooperation from various government authorities such as SSNL, Haryana Irrigation authorities, Railways, electricity authorities, MoRTH/NHAI/PWD, Police and other departments, said Mr H. S. Acharya, Executive Director of Prism, who headed this project.
