Call for India to recalibrate its approach to shipping infrastructure

India needs to rethink its approach to ships and shipping infrastructure and transform the way it invests, builds and utilises the maritime resources and capabilities as it looks to take a more significant role in maritime governance, said Mr Sanjeev Sanyal, Member of Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, while speaking at the curtain raiser of ‘Sagarmanthan: The Great Oceans Dialogue’ organised by the Observer Research Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW).

With its growing prominence in international relations, India is poised to take a more significant role in maritime governance. For decades after independence, India had a landlocked view of the world. However, this is changing. India must now be recognised as a maritime nation. Maritime space is crucial for India’s economic survival, he stressed, as per a report.
