VOC Port cargo traffic up 3.61 pc in Apr.-Oct.
 
V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port has handled 24.56 million tonnes of cargo and 4,64,060 TEUs of containers in the current financial year up to October 2024, as per a report. This marks a 3.61% growth in overall cargo traffic and 6.25% growth in container traffic when compared with 23.71 million tonnes of overall cargo traffic and 4,36,761 TEUs of containers handled during the same period last year. 
 
Hailing the feat, Mr Joe Celestine Villavarayar, Chairman, CII, Thoothukudi, said the container cargo handling volume would further increase as the port is on the verge of rolling out its new and third container terminal. V. O. Chidambaranar Port, one of the 12 Major Ports of India, is the second-largest port in Tamil Nadu. Its current Chairperson is Mr Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, the report added.
