MOL signs first Book and Claim service contract for used car transport
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Be Forward Co., Ltd. for pure car carrier book and claim service for used car transport to Africa. Be Forward is the first customer to use this service, and agreed to promote decarbonisation of marine transport by using LNG-fuelled vessels through this project. The contract term is 5 years from April 2025.
This method enables customers to register (Book) the GHG reduction from low-carbon ship transport services, and then claim (Claim) the reduction value allocated to them.
This MoU will enable Be Forward, a company that transports used cars to Africa, to claim the greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction value associated with the use of LNG as fuel in MOL’s car carrier fleet as its own GHG reduction through certificate.
While MOL will continue to reduce its own GHG emissions through the launch of new LNG-fuelled car carriers, it will pursue initiatives that contribute to GHG emission reduction for its stakeholders, as with its partnership with Be Forward, and society as a whole, aiming to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, as per a release.
