Reduction in permissible beam of vessels entering Chennai Port’s JD berths

Due to gradual weakening of the retention structures, the western wall of the Jawahar Dock entrance channel at Chennai Port is partially blocked, and, as a result, the maximum allowable beam of vessels entering JD berths has been limited to 28 metres.
 
Measures are being taken by the port to rectify the same, said a Chennai Port Authority Trade Notice dated November 4, 2024.
