Ministry holds focused group discussion with port/terminal operators to understand their evolving requirements
 
Neel Arth Vision Implementation Cell (NAVIC) for Projects, Schemes and PPPs in the maritime sector, constituted by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) and chaired by Mr Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairperson of Chennai Port Authority and Chairman of Kamarajar Port, held a Focused Group Discussion with Private and PSU Port/Terminal Operators in Mumbai on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 to understand the evolving requirements of the port developers and operators. 
 
This round-table discussion was attended by more than 20 Managing Directors, CEOs, CXOs and VPs of Private and PSU Port/Terminal Operators who represented Container Terminals, Liquid Bulk Terminals and Dry Bulk Terminals. Industry experts on Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) also participated in the event.
 
In addition to the private sector participants, Mr Rajiv Jalota, IAS, Chairperson of Mumbai Port Authority, Mr Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairman, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, Mr Adesh Titarmare, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, Mumbai Port Authority, Mr S. Viswanathan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, Chennai Port Authority, and 15 senior port officials attended the event and closely interacted with the participants. 
During the event, Mr Paliwal informed about the history and evolution of Concession Agreements at Major Ports in India and the Vision 2047 of the MoPSW in the port sector. Mr Rajiv Jalota highlighted the increasing role of private developers and investors in the port sector, who are propelling India towards Viksit Bharat by 2047.
 
This discussion is part of a broader exercise in alignment with the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision (MAKV) 2047 of MoPSW. MAKV 2047 was launched by the Prime Minister at the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 and is a long-term blueprint for India’s maritime sector that aims to improve port facilities, promote sustainable practices and develop world class next generation ports, in addition to other holistic developments across various sub-sectors of the maritime domain.
 
In order to ensure effective execution of initiatives under MAKV 2047, MoPSW has constituted Viksit Bharat Sankalp (ViBhaS) cells at the Ministry-level and Neel Arth Vision Implementation Cells (NAVIC) at the field-level for various themes. One of the themes is Projects, Schemes and PPPs, and the NAVIC overseeing this theme organised this Focused Group Discussion in Mumbai, said a release.
