Q2 growth disappointing but no threat to 6.5 pc for FY25: CEA

The second-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 5.4% is disappointing but does not signal the beginning of a trend, said Chief Economic Advisor Mr V. Anantha Nageswaran. There is no threat to the 6.5% growth target for the current financial year, he said, while calling the Q2 figure, the lowest in seven quarters, a one-off event. The Economic Survey 2023-24 had forecast 6.5-7% GDP growth for FY25. The GDP had expanded by 8.2% in FY24. Weaker expansions in manufacturing and consumption hurt the economy in Q2. However, the CEA said that consumption in rural India is holding up, and October sales of select manufactured goods in urban India did better. The agricultural and construction sectors are doing far better than last year, he added, as per a report.
