India to remain in touch with the US on  reciprocal tariffs: Commerce Ministry

India will remain in touch with the US, and the government is also studying the opportunities that may arise due to this new development in US trade policy, said the Commerce Ministry in its first response to the US imposing a 26% tariff on imports from India. Keeping in view the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’, the Department is engaged with all stakeholders, including the Indian industry and exporters, taking feedback on their assessment of the tariffs and assessing the situation. The Department is also looking at opportunities that could be tapped.

Discussions are ongoing between the Indian and US trade teams for the expeditious conclusion of a mutually beneficial, multi-sectoral Bilateral Trade Agreement. The US has also imposed 34% tariffs on China, 46% on Vietnam, 37% on Bangladesh and 36% on Thailand, said a report.
