Mawani and Lloyd’s Register sign agreement to standardise operational and maritime procedures at Saudi ports
The Saudi Ports Authority, “Mawani,” has signed a partnership agreement with Lloyd’s Register, the esteemed British Classification Society, to standardise operational and maritime procedures at Saudi ports. This initiative aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and aims to separate regulatory and operational roles within the ports sector.
The agreement seeks to establish enhanced procedures that promote operational excellence. Key objectives include developing guidelines and manuals, such as a Quality and Environmental Procedures Manual compliant with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 standards. These efforts ensure adherence to top-tier environmental and quality performance standards. Additionally, the partnership aims to create a Code of Good Practices to define responsibilities and execution procedures, boosting efficiency and organisation. It also plans to develop a specialised technical manual tailored to the scope of work and updated International Maritime Organization (IMO) conventions, alongside acquiring international certifications for ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015. These measures are expected to improve operational efficiency, enhance customer satisfaction, reduce emissions and waste, cut operational costs and strengthen sustainability practices while enhancing the global reputation of Saudi ports.
The collaboration also involves comprehensive training programs, including developing a manual for professional maritime certifications for port staff, setting eligibility criteria for training institutes and offering ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 courses (awareness, auditing and performance indicators). It will cover the rules and regulations required for maritime inspection operations, such as PSC/FSC inspections, while integrating the latest technologies and digital solutions to support sustainable operations and improve efficiency, informed a release.
