Major Ports’ cargo handling up 4.35 pc in FY25

The Major Ports handled 4.35% more cargo in 2024-25 at 855 million metric tonnes (mmt), according to provisional estimates of the Indian Ports Association. It shows that most of the 12 Major Ports recorded growth above the average of 4.4%, while Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata and Mormugao Port in Goa recorded contractions in their cargo handling. As per the data, Deendayal Port in Gujarat and Paradip Port in Odisha had the highest throughput at over 150 mmt each. Paradip Port, which handles the largest volume of coastal cargo in India, particularly coal, recorded a growth of 3.5%. Deendayal Port registered the highest overall growth among the Major Ports, at 13.4%, as per a report.
