New vessel calls Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port as part of MTT Shipping’s  Port Klang – Kolkata service

A new vessel of MTT Shipping Sdn Bhd, Malaysia, m.v. MTT Labuan, with capacity of 1,220 TEUs, deadweight of 16,830 tons and draft of 7 metres, called N. S. Dock of Syama Prasad Mookerjee  Port, Kolkata last week as part of the feeder service on the Port Klang – Kolkata – Port Klang sector.

The owner of the vessel, MTT Shipping Sdn Bhd, already operates a container feeder service with 2 vessels on the Port Klang – Kolkata – Port Klang sector from March 2023. With the success of this service, MTT Shipping has placed orders for 2 new container vessels for this service, specifically keeping in mind the low draft of the Hooghly River. Hence, the deadweight of 16,830 tons on a reasonable draft of 7 metres will be of great benefit to shipping lines and NVOCC operators for shipping their loaded & empty containers between Port Klang and Kolkata, highlighted Mr S. P. Chaudhary, Vice President, Seahorse Ship Agencies Pvt. Ltd, who are Agents of the Vessel. Mr Ravi Shankar Rajhans, Traffic Manager of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, visited the vessel.

The second such container feeder vessel, MTT Limbang, which is a sister vessel of the ship mentioned earlier, is expected to be at Kolkata on July 7, 2024. MTT Labuan and MTT Limbang will replace the existing feeder vessels which are rather old. Shipping lines, NVOCC operators and the ex-im trade will greatly benefit from the induction of these two newly built container vessels on the Port Klang – Kolkata – Port Klang service, due to the larger capacity of this vessel.
