Extended port gate facility proposed for Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port at Balagarh

The Chairman, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP), Kolkata, Mr P. L. Haranadh along with the Deputy Chairman, Mr Samrat Rahi, and senior officers of the port, on Thursday, visited the project site of “Extended Port Gate Facility at Balagarh”. The project, planned for decongesting Kolkata Dock System, will have two berths in the initial phase. It is to be constructed on 100 acres of port land in the island.  
 
The proposed cost of the project is around Rs 450 crore, of which Rs 350 crore is planned as investment from PPP partners towards construction of the berths, procurement of equipment, and development of associated facilities. 
 
 Around Rs 100 crore is planned as investment from SMP towards infrastructure development like essential road connectivity, dredging, bank protection works, etc. 
 
 Mr Haranadh examined the possible connectivity options, project facilities, encumbrances and the initiatives going ahead. 
 
SMP, Kolkata is in discussion with CESC and other stakeholders in this regard. The project will be executed after the necessary approvals are received from the concerned authorities, said a release.
