DPA registers highest ever cargo volume in a quarter

Mr S. K. Mehta, IFS, Chairman, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), has informed that DPA recorded its highest ever cargo volume in a quarter by handling 34.41 MMT in the first 3 months of 2022-23. This surpassed the previous best of 33.51 MMT in the 3rd quarter of 2021-22, highlighted a release.

Cargo volume in the months April to June 2022 also witnessed a growth of 6.070 per cent over the corresponding period of the last financial year when 32.44 MMT was handled.

This increase is primarily attributable to more wheat and salt being exported in bulk through the port. Moreover, the volume of coal handled during the quarter under review was also substantial. In the annals of DPA, the first ever consignment of coal destined for power gencos was handled in June 2022. DPA is likely to receive continuous volumes of coal consignments meant for power gencos, which will be evacuated by rail. This will increase the port’s railway coefficient, the release pointed out.
