VOC Port invites EoI to develop outer harbour through PPP mode on DBFOT basis
 
Two container terminals proposed
 
VOC Port Authority has invited Expression of Interest (EoI) from interested container terminal operators having experience in construction and/or operation experience in the port sector/core sector for the Development of Outer Harbour through PPP mode at V. O. Chidambaranar Port Authority on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis, as per a release.
 
The proposal is to develop Outer Harbour with two container terminals of 1,000 m quay length each through PPP mode. The Outer Harbour development majorly involves the construction of breakwater, capital dredging in the Outer Harbour basin and approach channel, construction of rubble bund for reclamation of dredged materials for creation of back-up yard, berth/jetty construction, mechanisation in the berth & stackyard, railway line laying, navigational aids, etc., as per a release
As per the proposal, the Concessionaire shall have to carry out the construction of a breakwater on the northern side (3,450 m length approx.) and southern side (2,050 m length approx.), capital dredging alongside the berth and Outer Harbour basin to (-)16.9 m and approach channel to (-)17.4 m to handle 16 m draught vessels as Phase l, and subsequently dredge (-)19 m in the dock basin and (-)19.6 m in the approach channel to be able to handle 18 m draught vessels as Phase ll. 
 
Further, the Concessionaire will be required to construct two berths of 1,000 m quay length each and mechanise the berths to handle container cargoes. Works to be executed by the concessionaire also include back-up yard development and any other works for successful completion and operation of the terminal so as to create ultimate capacity to handle container cargo of a minimum volume of 4 m TEUs, as per the release.
