SMP Kolkata facilitates major boost to Kolkata Metro: 16 new coaches unloaded at Netaji Subhash Dock

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) has announced the successful discharge of the second batch of Metro Rail coaches, significantly contributing to the city’s transportation infrastructure. On May 23, 2024, 16 Metro Rail coaches, each weighing 48 tonnes, were efficiently unloaded at Netaji Subhash Dock of the port.
 
These state-of-the-art coaches, for the Eastern Railway, were meticulously manufactured by Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Company, known for their fabulous engineering and quality. The vessel MV Bosi 58 (Flag State: Panama; overall length 116.99 m; gross tonnage 8,621; breadth 19.6 m), carrying these crucial components, arrived at Netaji Subhash Dock under the Kolkata Dock System of SMP Kolkata on May 22, 2024.
 
Mr Rathendra Raman, Chairperson, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, expressed his gratitude to Eastern Railway for entrusting SMPK with this critical task. He also lauded the dedicated efforts of the port team and trade partners who accomplished the operation.
 
SMP, Kolkata emphasised in a release that it is honoured to support Kolkata’s metro expansion and remains committed to delivering excellence in all endeavours. The Chairman further stated that this success underscores the port’s commitment to supporting development in the eastern region of the country, facilitating heavy infrastructure projects and thereby reinforcing Kolkata’s position as a dynamic and progressive metropolis.
