Railways commissions electronic interlocking system at Petrapole station

Railways has commissioned an electronic interlocking system at Petrapole station, which is the last station near the Bangladesh border in Sealdah division (West Bengal) and connects to Benapole, the first station of Bangladesh for transportation of goods trains and the international passenger train Bandhan Express between the two countries. The station had no signalling system and used to receive trains from Bangaon by using an age-old token block instrument which was the last one existing in the Eastern Railway. With the new signalling system, the old token block instrument from the British era has been replaced with a new universal failsafe block instrument system that would enable enhanced safety in this section and increase the scope for movement of more trains, said a report.
