Trains being operated on completed sections of WDFC; EDFC is fully ready: Minister

The Ministry of Railways had taken up construction of two Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs) viz.  Eastern   Dedicated   Freight Corridor (EDFC) from Ludhiana to Sonnagar (1,337 km) and Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) from Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) to Dadri (1,506 km). Construction of EDFC has been fully completed; 1,220 km of the 1,506 km WDFC is complete and train operations are going on in the completed sections.

The Dedicated Freight Corridors will reduce logistics cost through higher axle load trains, double-stack container trains and faster access to the northern hinterland from western ports, as also result in the development of new industrial hubs and Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals.

To ensure the timely completion of the Corridors, the government made appropriate provision of funds and monitored the project land acquisition activities in close coordination with State Governments directly and also through different forums like Project Monitoring Group (PMG) etc., the Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronic & Information Technology, Mr Ashwini Vaishnaw, informed Parliament.
