Telecom equipment imports exceed exports by 7 times

India’s imports of telecom products exceeded its exports by seven times in FY24, according to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). India imported telecom products exceeding Rs 1,46,000 crore in the last fiscal year; meanwhile, export of telecom products was valued at approximately Rs 20,000 crore during the same period. India’s telecom exports have in fact declined over the last three years. In FY22, around the time the Indian government established a production-linked incentive scheme for telecom items, India exported goods worth more than Rs 60,000 crore. However, two years later, exports have decreased by a third, said a report.
