Grain output target set at 341.55 MT for 2024-25

The government has set a target of record foodgrain production of 341.55 million tonnes (MT) for the 2024-25 crop year (July-June), which is an increase of around 3% from the 2023-24 crop year, said the Agriculture Minister, Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan, after the conclusion of the National Conference on Agriculture for Rabi Campaign 2024. The government plans to achieve this by introducing high-yielding varieties, intercropping, crop diversification, increased area and better agricultural practices. The rabi season is projected to contribute 164.55 MT of foodgrain production such as rice, wheat, pulses and coarse cereals in the 2024-25 crop year. Production of kharif and summer season crops are estimated at 161.37 MT and 2.25 MT, respectively. Oilseeds production for the 2024-25 crop year is at 44.75 MT, 13% higher compared to 39.66 MT in 2023-24, as per a report.
