MTT Limbang arrives at NSD on her maiden voyage
MTT Limbang, a container vessel having LOA/Beam of 158.15 m/25 m, arrived at NSD, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) on 10.07.2024 with a draft of 7 m on her maiden voyage under the agency of Seahorse Ship Agencies Pvt. Ltd. She had an exchange programme of 1,017 boxes/1,153 TEUs, comprising 569 boxes/641 TEUs of import and 448 boxes/512 TEUs of export. Incidentally, her sister vessel, MTT Labuan, with identical dimensions had called Kolkata Dock System, also on her maiden voyage, on 26.06.2024, exchanging a total of 1,587 boxes/1,717 TEUs, comprising 588 boxes/623 TEUs of import and 999 boxes/1,094 TEUs of export. Notably, MTT Labuan’s handling of 1,717 TEUs marked the highest exchange of TEUs ever achieved by a single vessel at KDS, highlighted Mr S. P. Chaudhary, Vice President, Seahorse Ship Agencies.
Both these vessels are flat-bottom and specially built to carry higher cargo at low drafts, tailor-made for riverine ports like Kolkata Dock System. This achievement demonstrates that with modern engineering, it is possible to navigate the draft restrictions at KDS effectively.
SMPK applauded the endeavour and strongly encouraged the adoption of such innovative vessel designs for the future of maritime trade, as per a release.
