Oil tankers the focus of attacks in the Red Sea?

Houthi rebels in Yemen appear to be prioritising targeting oil tankers in the Red Sea because their attack on the Greek tanker MV Delta Sounion brought them political and media attention, says Maged Al-Madhaji, Chairperson and Co-founder of the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies. Tehran is interested in a high global oil price and therefore the Houthi attacks on oil tankers make sense from Iran’s perspective, according to Brenda Shaffer, an energy expert at the US Naval Postgraduate School. The rebels subsequently attacked and damaged two more tankers, as per a report.
