Trade with Bangladesh resumes via land ports

Trade between India and Bangladesh has resumed through the Petrapole-Benapole land port border after 47 days of uncertainty due to violence in Bangladesh. Export and import activities resumed by rail through the land ports on September 4, 2024 following discussions between high-level officials from both countries. Mr Mohsin Milon, President of Benapole Import-Export Association, said traders are relieved following the resumption, adding that various goods, including stones, gypsum and materials for cement production from India, are imported through this route. Additionally, garment products, chemicals and motor vehicles are also imported. Cargo transportation by rail between the two countries was suspended on July 19, as per a report.
