Haifa Port acquisition by Adani Group a milestone: Israeli PM
The Haifa Port deal with the Adani Group is a huge milestone that will significantly improve connectivity between the two countries in many ways, said Mr Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister, after signing the port book along with Adani Group Chairman Mr Gautam Adani. The region will become an entry and exit point for a vast number of goods that would reach the Mediterranean and Europe directly without having to go around the Arabian Peninsula and without having to go through the choke points, it was emphasised.
In his address on the occasion, Mr Gautam Adani expressed confidence that “with the support from the Government of Israel, the local authorities, and our partner Gadot, we will transform the entire port landscape”.
“The acquisition of the Haifa Port also comes with a significant amount of real estate. And I promise you that in the years to come we will transform the skyline we see around us. The Haifa of tomorrow will look very different from the Haifa that you see today. With your support we will deliver on this commitment and do our part to transform this city,” he said.
The Port of Haifa is a leading container and multi-cargo facility in Israel and the Mediterranean. A consortium of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) and Israel’s Gadot Group won the tender in July last year for a reported $1.18 billion to privatise the facility, said a report.
