Textiles & apparel export up


During April-December 2021, total exports of textiles & apparel, including handicrafts, was valued at $29.8 billion as compared to $21.2 billion for the same period last year. This growth signals an economic rebound, highlighted an official release.


Textiles exhibited an increase in export of 31%, cotton yarn/fabrics/made-ups, handloom products etc. showed an increase of 43%, and jute products were up 33% in April-December 2021 as compared to last year.


The government has set a target of $44 billion for textiles & apparel including handicrafts and >67% has already been achieved. The last quarter of the fiscal always has higher activity than the earlier quarters. The industry is hopeful that the targets will be duly met, the release added.
