Container shortage for agri products exports reportedly worsening in the US

A worsening shortage of containers for exporting agricultural products in the United States has forced a group of more than 300 agricultural groups to send a letter to Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg demanding immediate action to rectify the imbalance between exports and imports. The imbalance, they said, has resulted in containerised agri export products not being able to find containers as surging imports of lucrative consumer goods make ocean carriers more willing to send empties back to Asia to carry additional profitable containers full of consumer goods to the US. The letter claims the problem has already cost US agri exporters $1.5 billion in lost exports. The groups signing the letter included the Agriculture Transportation Coalition, ADM, AgriWest, etc., as per a report.
