Rlys hauls in more income in Feb.

The Railways has registered a 5.43 per cent growth in total earnings, both from hauling cargo and passenger traffic, mopping up Rs 7,147.89 crore in February when compared to the same period of 2008-09.

Earnings from cargo movement, which contribute about 67-68 per cent of revenue to the Railways’ total earnings, registered a modest growth of 2.65 per cent in February, as compared to the earnings in February 2009.

This is lower than the 5.39 per cent growth the Railways’ goods movement registered in January.

In absolute terms, the Railways earned Rs 4,793.56 crore in February from freight movement.

Total goods haulage earnings during April-February 2009-10 touched Rs 52,584.57 crore, registering an increase of 7.67 per cent.
