APEC facilitating enhanced
port & shipping knowledge
Mr Harsh Chheda, Director of
Hirji Logicon Pvt. Ltd, last year had the distinction of being one of the first
persons from the Indian private sector to be nominated for an APEC seminar.
Port Training Center (APEC)
has been playing a key role in disseminating port and shipping related
knowledge globally since 1978. It conducts 15 seminars a year in Antwerp, with
options for tailormade seminars as well. In November
2012, Mr Chheda attended the 2-week seminar on break-bulk cargo in Antwerp,
fully sponsored by the Flemish government.
programme was very insightful in understanding in great detail the various
operations related to break-bulk and heavy lift cargo at the Port of Antwerp.
The visits to individual terminals and discussions with terminal operators,
stevedoring and logistics companies, along with complete understanding of the
technical aspects of working with break-bulk cargo help add expertise and
technical knowhow to our business,"
commented Mr Chheda.
According to Mr Paul Verkoyen,
APEC CEO, "The goal of each of our seminars is to give professionals the
opportunity to meet colleagues from all over the world and with vast experience
in many different fields. We believe this makes our seminars very powerful and
enriching. Therefore, our seminars are made for and by the participants.
"The network that is being
created during and after the seminar is an added value of the APEC seminars.
Participants, APEC and the Port of Antwerp stay in touch and continue exchanging
best practice. Without doubt, the friendship between all of us will keep
growing, because, even though we have diverse backgrounds, we all have one thing
in common: we love the maritime world."
Hirji Logicon is one of the
leading export cargo packaging companies in India, focusing on packaging and
lashing of project and over-dimensional cargo.
