Tea export earnings up in H1

Despite a fall in the volume shipped, India’s tea export earnings in the first half (H1) of the current calendar increased by 6.73 per cent over H1 of 2020 because of the significant surge in the price earned. A reduction in Kenya’s tea production by about 10 per cent, leading to importers scouting for supplies from other sources, pushed up the price of Indian teas to average Rs 265.49 a kg from Rs 218.82 a kg in H1 2020. This meant that every kg fetched Rs 46.67 or 21.33 per cent more this year, said a report.
