Centre ready to develop Tajpur deep sea port project jointly: Minister

The Central government is ready to develop the Tajpur deep sea port project jointly with the West Bengal state government if the latter agrees, as constructing a port without the Centre’s support is not possible due to the requirement of major associated infrastructure such as rail connectivity etc., said Mr Shantanu Thakur, Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The Chief Minister and the state government have to take a decision, he added during an interaction with the media recently. If the state government agrees to give land in compliance with all conditions, the Centre is ready to build a port at Tajpur. The West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation had earlier claimed that several Indian and foreign companies were interested in developing a deep sea port at Tajpur, as per a report.
