Government addressing implementation issues pertaining to RoDTEP scheme; rates to be announced soon, says Commerce Secretary

Commerce Secretary Mr Anup Wadhawan has said that the government is addressing certain implementation issues related to the much-awaited Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme for exporters and the rates will be announced in an early time frame.

The rates for different sectors under the scheme have to be notified by the Department of Commerce, which would be based on the recommendation of a committee chaired by Mr G. K. Pillai, former Commerce and Home Secretary, as per a report.

RoDTEP scheme is a new scheme, applicable with effect from January 1, 2021, formed to replace the existing MEIS (Merchandise Exports from India Scheme). The scheme will ensure that exporters receive the refunds on the embedded taxes and duties previously non-recoverable. The scheme was formulated with the intention to boost exports.
