Congestion expected on Europe’s shores after Canal reopening

More yard congestion is seen as the surge of imports arrives at Europe’s shores post the backlog of vessels starting to transit the Suez Canal, including a large number of containerships.  While some of that cargo is outbound or empties, on average 52 per cent of Canal capacity each week is northbound to Europe. More congestion is therefore expected as the backlog is cleared, which will lead to vessel bunching. Also, empty containers and exports are seen backing up at terminals, said a report.
