Sri Lanka seeks investor to complete Colombo Port’s East Container Terminal

The Sri Lankan government has reportedly called for investors to put in $500 million to complete the East Container Terminal of Colombo Port. Mr Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Ports and Shipping Minister, made the appeal in Parliament, it is learnt. He said that 440 metres of the 1,320 metres of the terminal had been built by Sri Lanka Ports Authority. Sri Lanka needs to complete this terminal by 2022, and if it cannot, it will face the challenge of companies that are doing business through its hub moving elsewhere. The ownership of the jetty will remain with the Sri Lankan government, added the minister, as per a report.
