KASEZ & other Gujarat SEZs show turnaround in exports post-Covid lockdown

The Kandla Special Economic Zone (KASEZ), the country’s oldest SEZ and the largest in terms of area, has shown a 16 per cent export growth in September 2020 over the exports in the same month of the last financial year. While merchandise exports from KASEZ have shown a modest growth of 10 per cent in September over the same month last year, services exports have shown a phenomenal four-fold increase comparatively compared to the previous year.

This was highlighted by Dr Amiya Chandra, ITS, Zonal Development Commissioner, KASEZ and other key dignitaries during an interaction with the media at KASEZ this week.

Apart from KASEZ, ten other SEZs in Gujarat, of the 20 functional SEZs, have also shown strong signs of recovery and appear to have put the Covid-phase behind them, highlighted a release. For example, the Surat and Dahej SEZs have shown an 89.13 per cent and 56.03 per cent increase in exports respectively in September over the same month in the last financial year. The TCS SEZ in Gandhinagar, the Jubilant SEZ in Bharuch and the Sterling SEZ near Vadodara have also shown growth rates exceeding 50 per cent during the month. Besides, the Zydus SEZ in Ahmedabad, which is pharma-based, has shown a growth rate of 37.56 per cent in September, along with smaller SEZs like GIDC Apparel Park SEZ and that of Calica Constructions & Impex in Ahmedabad which have shown healthy growth. Further, the GIDC Electronic Park SEZ registered a growth rate of 23.20 per cent, said a release.
