T.S. Lines orders two 1,900-TEU capacity vessels as business grows

T.S. Lines, the Taiwanese intra-Asia carrier, has contracted the construction of two 1,900-TEU ships from CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding of China. The signing of the newbuilding contract was done through video conferencing on September 11, 2020. Each new vessel is priced at $22.8 million and delivery is scheduled between the third and fourth quarters of 2022, as per a report.

With its business growing, this order is part of the line’s strategy to increase the number of its owned vessels. Next year, two 2,700-TEU newbuildings will be delivered, giving T.S. Lines ownership of 50 per cent of its operated fleet. Owning more ships facilitates reduced charter costs, it was pointed out.

T.S. Lines now operates 56 routes and 44 ships, with a total capacity of 98,000 TEU. The company owns 14 of the vessels.

T.S. Lines (India) Pvt. Ltd, a group company of the Samsara Group, is the general agent in India for T.S. Lines Co. Ltd.
