Huge export potential seen in agriculture & food sector following deregulation

After the deregulation by the government in the agriculture and food sector, the industry will be able to achieve the export target of $ 100 billion in the next five years by focusing on untapped global markets like Africa, Latin America, Middle East and Oceania, said the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI). The amendment in the Essential Commodities Act will be a game-changer, as it will make agriculture remunerative for farmers by bypassing the middleman, TPCI Chairman, Mr Mohit Singla, opined, as per a report.

The measures announced will help in the diversification of export products, which will reduce dependency on just four to five commodities. New inclusions like cereals, fresh fruits, edible oils, oilseeds, pulses, dairy products and fisheries in the food portfolio will further boost export, he added.
